Many websites track IP addresses and related system information, including system names and Internet network addresses that often uniquely identify computers. Some of that is not malicious and just serves the site, and some are installed to gather information for marketing and advertising companies. Some of those use cookie respawning techniques and canvas fingerprinting, a browser fingerprinting technique that allows websites to identify and track visitors using HTML5 canvas element instead of browser cookies or other similar means. Advertising sites with presence on many sites can even use cookie syncing to track your surfing patterns across different sites.
