Footprinting

Footprinting is part of the first step in a structured attack, the reconnaissance process, and its goal is to find out as much as possible about a system, it's remote access capabilities, its ports and services, and the aspects of its security.

Mitigation

  • Keep your domain name profile private, with for example whoisguard.
  • If a server contains sensitive data, keep it behind a secure proxy to prevent adversaries from gathering information from it.
  • Request archive.org to delete the history of a website.
